Amit Shah Slams Chidambaram Over Pahalgam Attack Remarks

New Delhi — A fierce debate erupted in the Lok Sabha after Indian Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticized former Home Minister P. Chidambaram for questioning the Indian government’s claims regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack, which left 26 civilians dead in occupied Kashmir.

Chidambaram, in a recent interview, questioned the basis of India's swift attribution of blame to Pakistan. He asked, “Why does the Modi government believe the attackers came from Pakistan? Has there been any credible evidence? What if the attackers were Indian nationals trained in India?”

The Congress leader’s comments triggered a sharp reaction from Amit Shah during a passionate address in the lower house of Parliament.

“Why is Chidambaram giving a clean chit to Pakistan? What will you gain by defending Pakistan?” Shah asked rhetorically, his tone visibly angry.

🔍 Shah Cites Chocolates as ‘Evidence’

Amit Shah claimed that three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack had been killed and said that “Pakistani-made chocolates” were found in their possession — presenting this as key evidence of Pakistani involvement.

Shah did not elaborate on whether any other forensic or intelligence data supported his claim, nor did he address Chidambaram’s call for a transparent and evidence-based inquiry.

⚠️ Ongoing Violence in Kashmir

Critics have alleged that India is attempting to cover up failures of Operation Sindoor by staging fake encounters under a new military initiative dubbed Operation Mahadev.

Just yesterday, three youths were reportedly killed in a staged encounter in Dachigam, near Srinagar, fueling further unrest in the region and drawing condemnation from human rights activists.

🤝 Pakistan Calls for Transparent Probe

The Pakistani government, meanwhile, condemned the Pahalgam attack in strong terms. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif even extended an offer of full cooperation for a neutral investigation, but Indian authorities have yet to respond to this diplomatic overture with any substantive follow-up.

Observers say the situation reflects a broader pattern in India’s handling of terror incidents in Kashmir, where political narratives often precede conclusive investigations.

As the Pahalgam attack continues to spark political and diplomatic tensions, many are calling for a fact-based, transparent approach rather than rhetoric and blame-shifting.
