Bajaur Bomb Blast Kills Assistant Commissioner, 4 Others

At least five people, including a senior government official, were killed while 11 others sustained injuries in a powerful bomb blast on Wednesday in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Bajaur District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique, the explosion targeted a government vehicle on Nawagai Road in the Siddiqabad railway track area of Khar tehsil. The vehicle was completely destroyed due to the intensity of the blast.

The deceased have been identified as Nawagai Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail, Tehsildar Abdul Wakil, Subedar Noor Hakim, police constable Rashid, and a civilian. The injured were rushed to Khar Hospital for emergency treatment, where an emergency was promptly declared to handle the influx of patients.

KP Health Adviser Ihtisham Ali condemned the terrorist act and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. He assured that full medical support is being provided to the victims. "All hospitals in Bajaur are on high alert, and health staff have been mobilized to provide immediate aid," he stated.

KP Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has requested a detailed report from the Malakand Regional Police Officer and directed the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to dispatch a special investigative team to the site. Preliminary reports suggest the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was behind the attack.

“The assistant commissioner’s vehicle was the direct target,” said IG Hameed, adding that intelligence is being gathered and multiple teams are working to apprehend those responsible. Bomb disposal squads were also deployed at the scene for evidence collection and safety clearance.

KP Government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif also condemned the attack, labeling it a cowardly attempt to disrupt peace in the region. “The chief minister has ordered a full inquiry and ensured best possible care for the injured,” he said.

Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah directed all district administration and health services to stay on high alert and ensure no stone is left unturned in responding to the emergency.

The incident marks yet another alarming escalation in terrorist violence in the province, underlining the persistent threat posed by militant groups such as the TTP. Security operations have been intensified across the region in response.
