China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) Unveils Extensive Investment Plan in Pakistan's Energy Sector

China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) has unveiled an ambitious investment plan for Pakistan's energy sector, focusing on hydroelectric, renewable energy, and transmission line projects. Managing Director Wang Huaiwa presented the details during a media briefing in Islamabad, reaffirming China's steadfast commitment to bolstering Pakistan's energy infrastructure.

A cornerstone of this initiative is the Azad Patan hydropower project in Azad Kashmir, with an estimated cost of $1.5 billion. Once operational, this project is set to generate 700 MW of electricity, pending final financial closure negotiations with the Pakistani government. Another significant venture, the Sikhi Canari Hydropower Project costing $1.96 billion, is nearing completion and will provide 884 MW of power.

CEEC's cumulative investments in Pakistan exceed $13 billion, making substantial contributions to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The company's endeavors in the energy sector alone contribute 6,000 MW out of Pakistan's total 8,000 MW generated, highlighting their pivotal role in meeting Pakistan's energy demands.

Wang Huaiwa underscored ongoing projects such as the Dasu Hydro, Bhasha Dam, Balakot, and Mohmand Hydropower, demonstrating China's enduring strategic partnership with Pakistan aimed at providing environmentally sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.

Under CPEC, direct investments have surged to $25.4 billion, benefiting 236,000 Pakistanis through job creation. The initiative has also facilitated the construction of 510 highways and installation of 8,000 MW electricity projects, significantly enhancing Pakistan's infrastructure and energy capabilities.
