POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

A wave of protests swept through the city as the trade community shut down businesses in response to the alleged abduction of Naresh Bhel, a young worker at the shop of renowned businessman Siddiq Arisar. The incident, reportedly carried out by individuals in plain clothes claiming to be police officers, triggered outrage among traders and locals alike.
Leading the protest, trade organization president Nooruddin Nahri, along with Siddiq Arisar, Malik Ilyas, Khamisu Khan, and Babu Naghar, condemned the unlawful act. They asserted that the abductors provided no justification for taking Bhel, raising concerns about police involvement in unauthorized detentions.
Following intense demonstrations, community elders intervened, negotiating with authorities to resolve the matter. As a result, the protest was called off, and the abducted young man was released.
Meanwhile, SHO of the local police station distanced the department from the incident, stating that they had no knowledge of the individuals in plain clothes. He clarified that the police had detained another young man the previous night on theft charges, who was also released after investigation.
The incident has fueled concerns over unlawful detentions and the need for accountability, with traders demanding strict action against those responsible.
