POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Nehal Hashmi as the Governor of Sindh, following the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The President extended his congratulations and best wishes to Hashmi on assuming the prestigious office.
Nehal Hashmi, a Karachi native, has had a long-standing association with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). His political career spans several decades, including a tenure as Advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Law and Justice from 1997 to 1999.
Hashmi later served as President of the PML-N Karachi chapter in 2012 and was appointed General Secretary of the party’s Sindh chapter in August 2014. In 2015, he was elected as a Senator representing the PML-N’s Punjab seat.
In 2017, Hashmi was expelled from the PML-N over controversial remarks regarding the Panama Papers case, but his party membership was reinstated in 2021. His appointment as Sindh Governor marks a significant return to a high-profile role in provincial politics.
The decision is seen as part of the ongoing reshuffle in key political positions, and it underscores the PML-N’s continued influence in Sindh’s administrative affairs.
