POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday issued a strong statement addressing the ongoing protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging demonstrators to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by generations of Kashmiris living under Indian occupation.
Posting on social media platform X, Asif said that those protesting in Azad Kashmir “cannot even imagine the tenth of what three generations of occupied Kashmiris have endured.” He noted that countless youth in Indian-administered Kashmir had grown old behind bars while struggling for freedom.
“The people of occupied Kashmir are writing the history of independence with their blood. They have faced the gallows, taken bullets to their chests, and continue to pay the price every day for their love for Pakistan,” the Defence Minister wrote.
Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmir cause, Asif reminded that soldiers from all provinces — Punjabis, Pakhtuns, Balochs, and Sindhis — had been martyred in wars fought over Kashmir. “Pakistan has staked its very existence for the independence of Kashmir and will continue to do so,” he emphasized.
Recalling the events of October 1947, Asif said that more than 100,000 Kashmiri Muslims were martyred while attempting to cross the border in pursuit of freedom and their right to self-determination.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions and growing protests in AJK, where demonstrators have raised concerns about governance, economic hardships, and political representation.
