POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Former prime minister Imran Khan has approached the court seeking permission for regular communication with his sons, as legal proceedings against him continue.
During a hearing at the Islamabad High Court, his legal counsel requested the court to direct prison authorities to facilitate weekly audio and video calls between Khan and his sons, Qasim and Suleman, who reside abroad.
The plea emphasized that maintaining family contact is a fundamental right and should be ensured even during imprisonment. The lawyer argued that such communication is essential for emotional well-being and does not interfere with legal proceedings.
The court was also informed that restrictions on communication have created difficulties for the former premier in staying connected with his family. The defense urged authorities to provide consistent access rather than occasional or limited contact.
This development comes amid ongoing appeals and legal challenges faced by Imran Khan in multiple cases. The hearings at the Islamabad High Court continue to draw significant public and political attention, reflecting the broader tensions in Pakistan’s political landscape.
Legal experts note that the court’s decision on this matter could set an important precedent regarding prisoners’ rights, particularly for high-profile political figures.
