DG ISPR Warns Against Anti-State Narratives, Calls Political Leader a ‘National Security Threat’

Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that no individual is greater than the state of Pakistan, warning that the political ambitions of a certain figure have grown to a level where, according to him, “he believes that if he is not there, then nothing else matters.” He made these remarks during a press conference, where he addressed what he described as emerging internal security threats.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif congratulated the newly appointed Chief of Defense Forces, stating that the CDF headquarters had been operationalized and noting that such a structure had long been needed.

“A Political Figure Has Become a National Security Threat” — DG ISPR

The DG ISPR said the purpose of the briefing was to highlight internal security challenges. He alleged that a major political figure had now become a national security threat and was “working with external elements.” He stressed that the Pakistan Army does not represent any political ideology and would respond to any attack carried out “under any personal narrative.”

He reiterated that the army respects all political leadership but will not allow attempts to create rifts between the people and the armed forces. “If someone attacks the armed forces or its leadership, we will not tolerate it,” he said.

Warnings Against Anti-Army Narratives

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said that criticism was acceptable, but incitement against the military would not be allowed. He claimed that the individual he referred to was promoting narratives against the state while ignoring constitutional limits. He added that some social media campaigns were amplified by Indian media, Afghan social platforms, and certain accounts based abroad.

He referenced tweets and statements that, according to him, encouraged financial destabilization or targeted military leadership. He claimed these narratives were later echoed by troll networks and foreign media outlets.

Comments on Article 19 & Free Speech

The DG ISPR reminded that Article 19 of the Constitution protects freedom of expression but places limits on speech that harms national security. He alleged that the political figure he criticized had displayed “signs of mental instability” and promoted divisive messages, including repeated references to historical political figures.

Propaganda Allegations & National Issues

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif criticized what he described as misinformation regarding the notification of the new Chief of Defense Forces, calling it an “organized wave of propaganda.” He urged political actors to address the country’s real issues instead of launching attacks on the military.
