Terrorist Attacks Across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Repelled by Police

A series of coordinated attacks on police stations and outposts across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night left a head constable and a civilian injured, while authorities successfully thwarted all militant attempts, officials said.

In Peshawar’s Badhaber area, assailants hurled a hand grenade at a police station, injuring Head Constable Faisal. A civilian also sustained injuries in Matani during a related incident. In Bannu, militants used sniper rifles to fire on the PP Kinger Bridge police post from multiple directions and targeted the Domel police outpost at Kasho Bridge, triggering a 15-minute exchange of fire with responding officers. Reinforcements quickly engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

Separately, in Hangu, unidentified gunmen attacked the Talab checkpost, but security forces prevented the assault without any casualties.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hamid condemned the attacks, calling the terrorists “cowards” who hide in bushes to launch hit-and-run strikes and flee when met with strong resistance. “These troublemakers only know how to attack from cover and lack the courage for a direct confrontation. As soon as they face a firm and iron-handed response from police, they run away like cowards,” he said.

The attacks come amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Afghan forces reportedly struck the Mir Ali market in North Waziristan, destroying several shops in retaliation for Pakistani operations. Pakistani authorities have accused Afghanistan of harboring terrorists responsible for cross-border attacks, a charge denied by Kabul.

Security forces remain on high alert across the province as operations continue to counter the surge in militant activity originating from groups operating in Afghan territory. No group has claimed responsibility for Friday night’s coordinated assaults.
