DIG Operations Faisal Kamran on Saturday condemned the violent protests that erupted in Lahore, saying that a group of demonstrators caused chaos, damaged public property, and injured several policemen despite repeated calls for dialogue.
Addressing a press conference, the DIG said that the police had kept the doors of dialogue open, but the group continued its protests “in its own way,” resorting to violence and vandalism. “A number of our personnel are missing, police stations have been damaged, and public property has been destroyed,” he said.
Faisal Kamran stated that the violent elements were harming ordinary citizens and disturbing peace across the city. “They celebrated victory by climbing the Orange Line station and attempted to create chaos in the country,” he remarked, adding that police had successfully cleared the city of such elements.
He expressed disbelief over the nature of the protests, saying, “I do not understand what kind of protest this is. These groups vandalize wherever they go and ruin the lives of common people.”
The DIG reaffirmed that state institutions will continue to perform their duties to maintain law and order. “We are always ready for dialogue, but the state will not tolerate violence. We will deal with such groups firmly,” he asserted.
The protests had caused significant disruption in Lahore, with reports of damage to public transport facilities and clashes between police and demonstrators. Authorities have vowed to restore peace and ensure that such acts of violence are not repeated.
