DSP Raja Umar Khattab Removed Following CTD Digital Currency Scandal

DSP Raja Umar Khattab, head of the Intelligence Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Sindh, has been removed from his post on the orders of the Inspector General (IG) Sindh. This decision comes in the wake of a high-profile investigation involving the short-term kidnapping of a citizen and the illicit transfer of $350,000 in digital currency by CTD officials in Karachi.

According to sources within the Sindh Police, a notification has been issued for the removal of DSP Khattab and DSP Raja Farrukh Younis from their respective posts. Both officers have been instructed to report to the Chief Police Office (CPO) while an investigation into the matter continues.

The incident centers around a digital currency transfer of $340,000 from the account of a citizen residing in Mangho Pir. The money was allegedly transferred by CTD official Ali Raza, who, along with six other suspects, is currently on the run. So far, eight individuals, including key suspects, have been arrested in connection with the case.

Senior police officials expressed concern over the breach of protocol, emphasizing that a CTD team cannot conduct a raid without the knowledge and approval of its in-charge. The IG's office has labeled this as a case of "incompetence and negligence," stressing the gravity of the issue.

The investigation has raised questions about the involvement of senior CTD officials, and a detailed probe is underway to determine the ownership of the illegally transferred funds. Authorities are working to track down the absconding suspects and gather more information about the entire incident.

In response to his removal, DSP Raja Umar Khattab has denied any involvement in the matter. Speaking to the media, he clarified that he was unaware of the incident until the investigation began. Khattab stated that a report was filed on January 3, highlighting the misconduct of CTD official Ali Raza. He further explained that the initial inquiry revealed Raza’s role in the crime, and efforts were immediately initiated to arrest him. However, the police teams have been unable to capture him so far, and the search continues.

The removal of high-ranking officials from their positions has sent shockwaves through the Sindh Police, particularly within the CTD, which has been under intense scrutiny due to this scandal. The case has further raised concerns about the effectiveness of internal policing and oversight in sensitive units like the CTD.

As investigations continue, the Sindh Police have vowed to pursue all leads and bring the responsible individuals to justice.
