Earthquake Jolts KP Cities as Punjab Battles Devastating Floods

Pakistan faced twin natural challenges on Tuesday as earthquake tremors were felt in several cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Punjab remained engulfed in devastating floods.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Center, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Upper Dir, Chitral, Swat, and adjoining areas of KP. The tremors, originating from the Hindu Kush mountain range at a depth of 110 kilometers, prompted citizens to rush out of their homes in fear, many reciting the Kalima Tayyaba.

Meanwhile, Punjab continues to be gripped by floodwaters as heavy inflows were reported in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. Authorities fear that rising water levels could reach Lahore, worsening the crisis. Rescue operations are underway in seven districts, while Narowal has already been inundated.

The situation has also impacted heritage and religious sites, with water flooding the Kartarpur Gurdwara, raising concerns over damage and access for devotees.

Relief agencies and rescue teams remain on high alert as both natural disasters test the resilience of citizens and emergency services in the affected provinces.
