Explosion Derails Jafar Express Near Shikarpur, One Injured; Sindh CM Orders Probe

A powerful explosion on the railway track near Sultanpur in Shikarpur district injured one person and caused the derailment of three coaches of the Jafar Express on Sunday, railway authorities confirmed.

According to the Divisional Transportation Officer (DTO) of Railways, the Jafar Express was en route from Peshawar to Quetta when the blast occurred. The explosion struck the train as it was passing through the Sultanpur area, causing a partial derailment and halting all railway traffic on the affected line.

“Following the explosion, three carriages of the train went off the track. Fortunately, there was no loss of life, but one person was injured,” the official said.

Emergency services and railway rescue teams rushed to the scene, and the injured individual was promptly shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Railway authorities have temporarily suspended services on the affected route. “It may take up to 10 hours to fully restore the track and resume normal operations,” said a spokesperson from Pakistan Railways.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the incident and ordered an urgent investigation into the blast. He directed law enforcement agencies to determine whether it was an act of sabotage or an accident due to track negligence.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, and bomb disposal squads are examining the remnants of the explosive device used in the attack.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over railway safety and growing security threats, particularly in regions traversed by inter-provincial train services.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

The Jafar Express is a key inter-city train service that connects the northern and southwestern regions of Pakistan, often carrying hundreds of passengers daily.

Further details are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
