Finance Minister Aurangzeb: Blue Economy a “Game Changer” for Pakistan’s Future

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that the blue economy will serve as a “game changer” for Pakistan’s economic future, bringing sustainable growth and fresh investment opportunities.

In a virtual address to the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference 2025, the finance minister emphasized that Pakistan’s economy is now moving in the right direction, supported by key structural reforms and improved fiscal management.

“The blue economy will prove to be a game changer for Pakistan’s economy,” Aurangzeb asserted. “We are implementing an agenda of fundamental reforms that are essential for sustainable development and long-term economic stability.”

Highlighting the growth potential of Pakistan’s maritime sector, the minister revealed that seafood exports have reached $500 million, while overall revenue from the blue economy has climbed to $1 billion. He stressed that the government is focusing on expanding investment and modernizing port infrastructure in Karachi, Gwadar, and Port Qasim to boost trade and logistics capabilities.

Aurangzeb further noted that Pakistan has witnessed a “significant reduction in inflation and policy rates” over the past two and a half years. He added that three major global rating agencies have recognized the country’s recent economic progress and reform measures.

He also mentioned that support from friendly nations has strengthened Pakistan’s trade partnerships and economic stability. “There is excellent coordination among ministries to ensure effective implementation of our reform agenda,” the minister added.

Concluding his remarks, Aurangzeb reaffirmed the government’s commitment to unlocking the vast potential of the maritime sector and the blue economy, which he said could lead to a new era of prosperity, innovation, and sustainable development for Pakistan.
