Former Bannu Nazim Injured in IED Blast Outside Office in Domel

Former nazim of Domel tehsil in Bannu district, Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir, was injured on Tuesday after a bomb blast outside his office in the Domel Bazaar area, police confirmed.

According to Bannu police spokesperson Asif Hassan, a pre-installed improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated at the main gate of Wazir’s office. Soon after the explosion, a heavy police contingent reached the site, cordoned off the area and launched a formal investigation.

Police and local sources said the blast occurred outside the main gate while the former nazim was present in his vehicle. He sustained minor injuries in the explosion, while his vehicle was completely destroyed. The office gate and nearby structures also suffered damage.

Authorities said evidence was being collected from the scene and the nature of the explosive device was being assessed as part of the investigation.

Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir is known for his active role in peace initiatives against terrorism in the region and has previously remained at the forefront of forming tribal lashkars to help restore peace in the area.

Sources said an important gathering of tribal elders was scheduled to take place at the same office later in the day. Wazir was on his way to attend the meeting when the blast occurred.

Following the incident, tribal elders staged a protest by gathering at the site and announced a strong response against the attack. Armed individuals were also seen along the Bannu–Kohat Road, prompting heightened security measures.

The police spokesperson said the situation was being closely monitored to prevent any further deterioration in law and order.

Rising Violence in Bannu Region

The attack comes amid a surge in militant activity in the region. A day earlier, a man and his son belonging to the Hathikhel tribe were allegedly abducted by suspected terrorists near Jhandokhel in Domel, police and locals said.

On Sunday, a police constable was martyred in a targeted shooting in Bannu’s Kashfi Khel area, while three traffic police personnel were killed in a separate attack in Lakki Marwat’s Serai Naurang.

Earlier this month, Miranshah Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali and two police officials were among four people martyred after their vehicle was attacked in Bannu.

Despite record militant deaths, Pakistan witnessed a sharp escalation in militant violence in 2025, with terrorist attacks increasing by 34 per cent and terrorism-related fatalities rising by 21 per cent year-on-year. A total of 699 terrorist attacks were recorded nationwide during the year.
