Four IHC Judges Prepare Draft Petition to Challenge 27th Constitutional Amendment

Four judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) have reportedly prepared a draft petition to challenge the 27th Constitutional Amendment, sources say.

The judges named as petitioners include Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz, and Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan. According to sources, the draft petition has been sent to the Supreme Court and was expected to be filed on the same day.

However, Supreme Court sources confirmed that no petition has yet been officially filed by IHC judges challenging the amendment. Similarly, officials in the Federal Constitutional Court said no such petition has been submitted in their court either.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment, which has been a matter of significant judicial and political debate, has already sparked discussions about its impact on the powers and independence of the judiciary. The potential challenge by sitting High Court judges underscores the growing concerns within the judiciary about the amendment’s provisions.
