The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore has granted post-arrest bail to former Punjab Governor Umar Sarfaraz Cheema in the Mughalpura arson and violence case. ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul issued the verdict after reviewing the arguments presented by both parties.
According to the court, Cheema’s bail application was approved due to lack of sufficient material in the police record to justify its rejection. The court noted that the accused has cooperated with the investigation, and therefore, there is no need for his physical remand at this stage.
The Mughalpura police had alleged that Cheema and others were involved in arson, riots, and violence during a protest. However, the court’s decision indicates that the evidence presented so far does not warrant denying bail.
In addition, the ATC adjourned proceedings on the bail applications in four other cases registered against Umar Sarfaraz Cheema until November 25. These cases contain similar allegations linked to previous protest incidents. The court directed police to present complete records during the next hearing to allow the proceedings to move forward.
The development marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings against Cheema, as the court weighs evidence from multiple cases stemming from protests and unrest.
