Grand Health Alliance Protest in Lahore Turns Violent as Police Use Water Cannons

After 12 days of continuous protests, the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) faced a violent confrontation with police on Friday. The protesters, who have been demanding the approval of their demands, attempted to advance towards the Chief Minister’s House, but were stopped near Al-Hamra Hall by police barricades, water cannons, and baton charges.

The confrontation escalated when police used water cannons to disperse the crowd, leading to multiple arrests. Among those arrested were YDA President Shoaib Niazi and Salman Haseeb. The protesters, enduring the intense heat, were unable to withstand the conditions, with many fainting. Dr. Shoaib Niazi, the President of the Grand Health Alliance, also experienced a deterioration in health due to the heat. Medical assistance was provided on-site to the unconscious individuals.

Despite the violence, Dr. Niazi stated that the protesters would not end their sit-in. "If we are arrested, the sit-in will continue," he said. The protesters also announced a boycott of Outpatient Departments (OPD) starting tomorrow in a show of solidarity.

  • Arrests: Key protesters including Dr. Shoaib Niazi and Salman Haseeb arrested.
  • Health crisis: Several protesters, including the President, fainted due to the heat.
