Head Constable Martyred, Two Terrorists Killed in Bannu Police Vehicle Attack

A police officer was martyred and three others injured when militants attacked a police vehicle in Bannu district’s Sheikhan Mama Khel area on Saturday. Head Constable Dilnawaz Khan lost his life in the assault, according to officials.

Police said the militants opened sudden fire on a routine patrol vehicle, prompting a swift retaliatory response. The attackers set the vehicle ablaze during the attack. In the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed and four others injured, while police recovered two motorcycles used by the assailants. A search operation in the area is ongoing.

Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan visited the hospital to check on injured personnel and confirmed the details of the operation.

In a separate incident, militants attacked Ahmadzai Police near an under-construction circular road in Khara Ghora. The police effectively repelled the assault, injuring some militants and forcing them to flee.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a rise in militant attacks over the past year. According to the 2025 Annual Security Report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), fatalities in the province increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.

Bannu has been a hotspot for militant activity, with recent incidents including:

  • February 21: A lieutenant colonel and a sepoy martyred in a suicide attack during an intelligence-based operation.
  • March 13: Attack on a checkpost protecting internally displaced persons; one attacker killed, a constable injured.
  • March 23: Partial damage to a vacant police post in Domel due to a bomb explosion.
  • March 26: A government school in Ghora village destroyed by unidentified miscreants.

Security forces have intensified counter-terrorism operations in the province, killing 13 terrorists in five operations earlier this month, including one in Bannu. Authorities reaffirm their commitment to eliminating militant threats and maintaining law and order.
