The highly anticipated clash between the women’s cricket teams of Pakistan and India in the ICC Women’s World Cup will take place on Sunday, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) taking strict measures to prevent political controversies during the match.
During a press conference held ahead of the game, Pakistan Women’s Team Captain Fatima Sana faced questions from journalists. However, ICC Media Manager Sepua Kazi issued clear instructions that political questions, including those related to current tensions between the two countries or symbolic gestures like handshakes, would not be entertained. Reporters were directed to restrict their queries strictly to cricket-related matters.
Speaking about her team’s preparations, Fatima Sana said the squad has been training intensively for the big match against India. While the final playing XI has yet to be announced, she assured that every player is motivated and ready to deliver.
Despite Pakistan’s recent defeat against Bangladesh, the young captain expressed confidence that her team is still very much in the competition. “We are not out of the World Cup; we are determined to make a strong comeback,” she said, stressing the collective focus on performance rather than distractions.
Reflecting on past encounters, Fatima acknowledged that friendly relations have existed between the two teams, but added that her current priority is cricket alone. “We are aware of the current situation, but our first focus is only the game,” she emphasized.
She also expressed gratitude for the support she has received in her leadership role. “It is an honor to captain the team at such a young age. The senior players are supporting me fully, and we are ready to play as a strong unit.”
The ICC’s decision to restrict political questions underscores the sensitivity surrounding Pakistan-India encounters, especially against the backdrop of current regional tensions. Sunday’s game is expected to draw massive attention from cricket fans across both nations and beyond.
