The International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed Pakistan batsman Salman Ali Agha a demerit point for his reaction following a controversial run-out in the second ODI against Bangladesh.
According to the ICC, Agha was found guilty of a level one breach of the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.2, which addresses inappropriate conduct involving cricket equipment, clothing, or ground equipment during international matches. The demerit point has been added to the player’s disciplinary record.
During the match at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Agha was controversially run out at the non-striker’s end by Bangladesh captain Mehdi Hasan Miraz. Salman Ali Agha expressed visible anger while leaving the field, prompting the ICC’s disciplinary action.
The ICC confirmed that Agha admitted his mistake and accepted the ruling. The incident has sparked debate on sportsmanship, with former Pakistani cricketers Ramiz Raja and Hammad Hafeez criticizing Hasan Miraz’s action as against the spirit of the game.
The ruling highlights the ICC’s continued emphasis on maintaining decorum and fair play during international cricket matches, reminding players that reactions on the field are subject to disciplinary review.
