IHC Grants Bail to Imran Khan in Bulgari Jewellery Case Amid Ongoing Toshakhana Saga

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) today accepted PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s bail petition in the Bulgari jewellery case, contingent on furnishing two surety bonds worth Rs 1 million each. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb directed Imran to appear before the trial court, warning that bail could be revoked if he failed to cooperate during proceedings.

The case revolves around allegations of undervaluing a state gift—a Bulgari jewellery set—causing financial losses to the exchequer. Despite today’s ruling, Imran remains incarcerated due to other ongoing cases.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has accused Imran and his wife, Bushra Bibi, of retaining numerous state gifts, including the jewellery set, at undervalued prices. During his tenure as prime minister, the couple allegedly retained 58 out of 108 state gifts, valued at over Rs 142 million.

Bushra Bibi, who was granted bail in the case last month, is no longer in custody. The Toshakhana case and related investigations continue to highlight alleged irregularities in gift valuations, with officials from multiple agencies scrutinizing the processes involved.

Speaking to the media, Barrister Salman Safdar, Imran’s legal counsel, asserted that the accusations were baseless, claiming that gifts were retained following Toshakhana policy guidelines. He emphasized that the latest allegations were delayed by over three years and maintained that no crime had been committed.

The prosecution, however, argued that the undervaluation and retention of gifts violated state protocols, causing financial losses. The court proceedings also examined potential lapses by customs officials involved in the valuation process.

The IHC’s decision represents a significant yet partial relief for the PTI leader, as numerous other legal battles remain unresolved.
