IHC to Hear Petition Seeking Closure of Imran Khan’s X Account on November 4

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled for hearing a petition demanding the closure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, which the petitioner claims is being used for “illegal and malicious” posts during his imprisonment.

The petition, filed by citizen Ghulam Murtaza through his counsel Barrister Zafarullah, urges the court to order the removal and blocking of what it terms “disruptive and misleading” tweets posted from the former prime minister’s social media handle.

According to the petition, these posts allegedly violate legal boundaries and could influence public perception while Khan remains incarcerated. The petitioner has requested the court to ensure that such posts are removed and prevented from being shared further online.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court will hear the case on November 4, with the Registrar’s Office having already issued a cause list.

The court has issued notices to Imran Khan and sought his response. Notices have also been sent to the National Cyber Crime Agency, the Superintendent Jail, and other relevant parties for their replies.

The petition marks the latest development in a series of legal proceedings involving Imran Khan, who has remained in jail since his conviction in multiple cases, including the Al-Qadir Trust and Toshakhana references.

Observers note that the upcoming hearing could raise broader questions about social media use by public figures serving prison sentences, as well as the state’s role in regulating political communication online.
