Imran Khan Seeks Acquittal in NAB Cases Following Supreme Court Decision

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has formally sought acquittal in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases. This move comes after the Supreme Court rejected Khan’s plea to declare the NAB amendments null and void, instead approving the intra-court appeals from both federal and provincial governments and reinstating the NAB amendments.

The Supreme Court’s detailed judgment stated that Imran Khan failed to convince the court to annul the NAB amendments. However, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali noted that the court’s decision has provided Khan with two significant benefits: the dismissal of the £190 million case from the accountability court’s jurisdiction and other protective measures for cabinet decisions under the NAB amendments.

On the heels of this decision, the £190 million case against Imran Khan was heard in Adiala Jail, where Khan and his associate Bashira Bibi appeared in the accountability court. Khan’s legal team submitted a copy of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the NAB amendments, arguing that the case should not fall under the accountability court’s jurisdiction following these amendments.

Khan’s lawyer contended that the NAB amendment decision effectively nullifies the case, as all cabinet decisions are safeguarded under the new amendments. The prosecution, however, stated that if the court retains jurisdiction, it could entertain the acquittal plea.

The court has issued notices to the parties involved and will decide on the jurisdiction and acquittal plea based on the ongoing legal arguments.
