An accountability court at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail is considering the potential cancellation of bail for Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The court session took place on Thursday during a hearing related to the £190 million reference.
Bushra Bibi was represented by her associate lawyer, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, as Imran Khan appeared in court. She was released from Adiala Jail on October 24 after the Islamabad High Court granted her bail in the new Toshakhana case, following the submission of a surety bond worth Rs1 million.
Bibi, who married Khan shortly before his election in 2018 and has rarely been seen in public, was arrested on January 31, just one week before the elections. The charges against her in the illegal marriage case have generated significant public outcry.
During the hearing, Chaudhry requested Bibi's exemption from court attendance on medical grounds, a request contested by the prosecution. National Accountability Bureau prosecutor Amjad Pervaiz argued that the absence of both Bibi and her lawyers was inappropriate and accused her of misusing her bail conditions. He called for a show-cause notice to be issued.
The court expressed concern over the repeated absence of Bibi and her legal representatives, indicating that continued non-compliance could lead to the revocation of her bail and the reissuance of warrants. The hearing has been adjourned until Friday due to the inability to cross-examine the investigation officer in Bibi's absence.
