India Likely to Reject Pakistan’s Proposal for Champions Trophy at Neutral Venues

India is reportedly likely to reject Pakistan's proposal regarding the hosting of the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suggested holding ICC events, including the Champions Trophy, at neutral venues, following concerns over security and logistics in India.

India's Hesitation

Indian media outlets have highlighted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is hesitant to accept Pakistan's offer. The main concern revolves around security issues in India, as well as the current diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The possibility of agreeing to the hybrid model proposed by Pakistan, which includes matches being played at neutral venues, remains uncertain.

ICC’s Position and PCB's Stand

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly signaled that the Champions Trophy may be moved from Pakistan if the hybrid model is not accepted. Pakistan, however, has demanded a written guarantee from India regarding the participation of both teams in the tournament. Without this assurance, the matter would be left for the ICC to decide.

According to PCB sources, there has been no communication from either the ICC or the Indian Board regarding the proposals, but discussions are expected in the coming days.

PCB Chairman's Statement

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized Pakistan’s stance on equality in the matter. He stated that if India refuses to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, Pakistan would also not travel to India to play. “Whatever happens will be on the basis of equality, it is not possible that India does not come here and we go and play there,” Naqvi asserted.

Neutral Venues Proposal

Pakistan has proposed to hold India-Pakistan matches at neutral venues for three years, as part of an effort to ease tensions and ensure the successful hosting of the tournament. However, with India’s likely rejection of this proposal, the fate of the Champions Trophy remains in the balance.
