Iran Condemns Macron for Silence on Attacks Against Iranian Gas Facilities

Abbas Araqchi has strongly criticized Emmanuel Macron for his silence regarding the attacks on Iranian gas facilities, calling it “regrettable” that Macron condemned Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Gulf energy infrastructure while ignoring the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Araqchi highlighted that Israeli forces targeted fuel depots in Tehran, causing toxic damage affecting millions of civilians, yet the French president remained silent. He added that Macron’s concern only emerged after Iran responded, demonstrating a “biased and regrettable” approach.

Macron had recently stated that he had spoken with the Emir of Qatar and Donald Trump regarding the attacks on energy facilities in the region, emphasizing the need to protect civilian infrastructure and ensure energy security. Araqchi criticized Macron for failing to condemn the initial attacks on Iran while speaking out only after Iranian retaliation.

The conflict between Iran and Israel has now entered its 20th day, with attacks escalating across multiple fronts, including the targeted killing of senior Iranian officials and strikes on critical energy facilities. On March 19, Israel targeted Iran’s South Pars gas field, one of the largest in the world. Hours later, Iran retaliated by firing missiles at energy facilities in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, including the Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar, causing fires and potential disruptions to global gas supplies.

US President Trump previously stated that Israel had attacked Iran’s gas facilities in anger but would refrain from further attacks if Iran did not retaliate. He also warned that if Iran continues strikes on Qatar, the US could destroy the Pars gas field entirely.

Analysts warn that the ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure in the Gulf could have far-reaching implications for global energy markets, as tensions continue to escalate between Iran, Israel, and their regional allies.
