Iran’s Foreign Ministry has sharply criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about pursuing dialogue with Tehran, calling Washington’s behaviour “hostile and criminal.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said that Trump’s call for peace contradicts his administration’s aggressive policies toward Iran.

“Mr. Trump can either be a President of Peace or a President of War, but he cannot be both at the same time,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The criticism came after Trump, during his address to Israel’s parliament, expressed readiness to “strike a deal” with Iran—remarks that have drawn skepticism from Tehran.

In June, the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities following the collapse of five rounds of indirect nuclear talks. The negotiations had stalled over key issues, including Iran’s right to domestic uranium enrichment.

Foreign Minister Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran remains open to “respectful and mutually beneficial diplomatic engagement,” but not under pressure or threats.

Earlier this year, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected U.S. demands to halt uranium enrichment, describing them as “excessive and outrageous.” He said the dispute with Washington was “unsolvable” as long as America expects Iran to submit to its will.

Western governments continue to accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, a claim that Tehran has consistently denied, maintaining that its nuclear programme is purely civilian and peaceful in nature.
