POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Islami-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has asserted that his party will participate in local government elections, saying the decision is unavoidable under the constitution.
Speaking to the media after offering condolences on the death of Maulana Javed Nomani in Hajan town of Sargodha, Maulana Fazlur Rehman remarked that “whether PTI comes forward or not, JUI will definitely come forward.”
On being asked about a statement by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister regarding not receiving protocol in Punjab, the JUI-F chief responded cryptically: “Some cities give people cruel people, some people are just eager to die.”
Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami’s public referendum, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that no contact was made with JUI-F and the party remains unclear about the philosophy behind the initiative. He added, “They should ask me; they are just falling apart among themselves.”
The JUI-F leader’s comments come amid ongoing discussions over local government elections, which are seen as a constitutional requirement and a test for political alliances in the country.
