The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) has filed a constitutional petition in the Balochistan High Court challenging the recently passed Mines and Minerals Act by the provincial assembly. The petition, submitted by Senator Kamran Murtaza Advocate under instructions from party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, was jointly filed by JUI Balochistan Ameer Maulana Abdul Wasi and Senator Murtaza himself.
The case is being pursued in court by legal team Advocate Abdul Malik Baloch, Khalil Kakar, Imran Baloch, and Adnan Sheikh.
JUI-F: Resources Must Stay With the People
Speaking to the media outside the court, Senator Kamran Murtaza and Maulana Abdul Wasi strongly criticized the act, asserting that it deprives the people of Balochistan of their natural resources.
“This legislation is an attempt to rob Balochistan of its mineral wealth,” said Kamran Murtaza.
“We will raise our voice at every forum to protect the rights of the people.”
Murtaza alleged that the JUI-F was deliberately sidelined during the bill’s passage, even though the standing committee on mines and minerals was chaired by a JUI member.
“The bill was passed in the absence of our chairman. This is legislative betrayal,” he said.
No Compromise on Balochistan’s Ownership
JUI-F leaders warned that the federation has no rightful claim over Balochistan’s mineral resources, reiterating that these belong solely to the province’s people. They called on the judiciary to uphold provincial rights and block the implementation of the act.
“We will not allow the exploitation of our land. This act undermines provincial autonomy and must be struck down,” said Maulana Abdul Wasi.
JUI-F plans to mobilize political, legal, and public platforms to oppose the bill, framing it as a test case for provincial sovereignty under Pakistan’s constitutional framework.
