Karachi on High Alert Amid Rising Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions

Police in Karachi have placed the city on high alert amid escalating military tensions between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban forces along the Pak-Afghan border. A safety advisory issued by the office of the Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi urges residents and visitors to exercise heightened vigilance and follow security protocols.

The advisory stated that law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have strengthened surveillance and tightened security at key entry and exit points, transportation hubs, and sensitive locations to pre-empt potential threats. Citizens have been urged to report suspicious activity, including unattended packages, unfamiliar persons in sensitive areas, or illegal foreigners, to local police or emergency services immediately.

The advisory also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information or panic-inducing content on social media, referencing a recent false alert about shopping centres and commercial areas that caused fear among residents. Citizens are advised to rely on official statements from Sindh Police or government briefings.

Travelers were specifically advised to arrive at airports at least one hour early due to enhanced security screening, and to ensure only one visitor or attendant accompanies each passenger to avoid congestion. Residents were also reminded to carry their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) for verification at checkpoints.

“National security forces and law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to respond to threats and protect citizens. All measures are designed to maintain peace, stability, and public safety,” the advisory concluded.

Authorities stressed that these steps are preventive measures aimed at safeguarding Karachi amid the current geopolitical tensions and ongoing security challenges along Pakistan’s western border.
