Khawaja Asif Urges SCO to Resolve Kashmir & Palestine Issues

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif used the platform of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defence Ministers' Conference in Beijing to call for a peaceful resolution of two of the world’s longest-running conflicts — Kashmir and Palestine — warning that such unresolved issues remain a persistent threat to global peace and regional stability.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, Asif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the SCO’s core principles, including mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence. He expressed grave concern over rising global tensions, particularly the growing humanitarian crises and military confrontations.

Call for Gaza Ceasefire and Condemnation of Israeli Strikes

Khawaja Asif strongly condemned Israel’s "unjustified and illegal" military operations against Iran and denounced the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. He urged the international community to enforce an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the besieged Palestinian enclave, where thousands have been killed or injured in continued Israeli aggression.

Kashmir and Palestine: A Threat to Peace

The minister emphasized that long-standing disputes like Kashmir and Palestine must not be ignored.

“These unresolved conflicts are a constant source of instability and pose a serious threat to global peace and security,” he said.

Reiterating Pakistan’s historical stance, Asif urged world powers and regional stakeholders to play an active role in ensuring a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution in line with UN Security Council resolutions and international law.

Terrorism & Afghanistan

On the subject of terrorism, Khawaja Asif highlighted that the threat of terrorism is a shared challenge for the SCO member states.

“All nations must avoid politicizing joint efforts against terrorism,” he added, calling for unity and neutrality in the fight against extremism.

Asif also stressed that a peaceful, inclusive, and stable Afghanistan was critical to realizing the shared vision of sustainable prosperity and connectivity in the region.

Pakistan's Role in SCO

Pakistan, a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has consistently used the platform to advocate for regional harmony, multilateral cooperation, and peaceful dispute resolution. The country’s leadership continues to emphasize the SCO’s potential to transform regional politics through economic collaboration and mutual respect.
