Seven policemen abducted from Rocha Check Post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Monday night have been safely recovered, the district police officer (DPO) confirmed on Tuesday.
According to DPO Ziauddin Ahmad, the recovery was facilitated through intensified search operations and intervention by local elders. The personnel were found unharmed in the same area where they had been kidnapped.
The kidnapping occurred when armed assailants stormed the check post, taking the officers hostage at gunpoint and seizing their weapons. The Rocha Check Post is located near the border with North Waziristan, within the jurisdiction of the Otmanzai police station.
Following the abduction, a significant police contingent was deployed to the area, launching extensive search operations across the rugged and remote terrain. Local pressure also played a crucial role in ensuring the safe release of the policemen.
This incident highlights the escalating threat of militant attacks in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Just days ago, seven security personnel were martyred, and 18 others injured in a pre-dawn attack on a check post in Kalat, Balochistan.
Authorities continue to grapple with increasing assaults targeting law enforcement and security checkpoints, signaling an urgent need for bolstered security measures.
