POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif alleged that Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is being subjected to inhumane treatment in prison on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Saif expressed grave concerns over the reported conditions of Bushra Bibi's incarceration, claiming that she is being ridiculed and searched in front of cameras. "She is woken up at night and subjected to mental torture under the guise of routine cell and hair searches," he stated, emphasizing the psychological distress being inflicted upon her.
The advisor remarked that such treatment is a deliberate attempt to undermine Imran Khan by targeting his family. He reaffirmed that Bushra Bibi has remained steadfast in her support for her husband, which he sees as a source of strength rather than a point of vulnerability.
Saif further criticized the current government, led by Maryam Nawaz, for what he termed "mountains of oppression" being inflicted upon women in the province. He drew attention to the arrest of an elderly woman, suggesting that the government's actions reflect a broader pattern of injustices.
"Maryam Nawaz should consider how much oppression she can endure, for what goes around, comes around," he added, hinting at the potential ramifications of her government's actions.
The statement has added to the growing tensions between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and the ruling government, highlighting the contentious political climate in the region.
