Kuki Khel Tribe Ends Sit-In After Meeting with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur

The Kuki Khel tribe has officially announced the end of their sit-in and proposed march after a productive meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. The meeting was held with a jirga consisting of tribal elders and attended by notable figures, including MNA Iqbal Afridi, MPS Sohail Afridi, and Abdul Ghani Afridi, along with the Commissioner of Peshawar and the Deputy Commissioner of Khyber.

During the discussions, the primary focus was on the issue of returning temporarily displaced persons from the Kuki Khel nation back to their homes. Participants agreed to initiate the registration process for the return of residents from cleared areas immediately. Furthermore, it was decided that a follow-up meeting with relevant institutions will take place next week to establish a clear timeline for the return of remaining displaced individuals.

In light of the Chief Minister’s assurances, the jirga announced the cancellation of the planned march of displaced persons towards Tirah and declared an end to their sit-in on the Torkham highway, which had persisted for 75 days.

Leaders from the jirga expressed their full confidence in the Chief Minister's ability to manage the return of displaced persons and praised his leadership in resolving the situation peacefully. They noted that Chief Minister Gandapur had effectively prevented potential bloodshed through his wisdom and negotiation skills.

In response, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur thanked the elders of the Kuki Khel tribe for their trust and expressed his commitment to fulfilling their expectations. He emphasized that a meeting would be convened next week with relevant partners to finalize the rehabilitation plan for those who had been displaced.

The Chief Minister recognized the significant sacrifices made by the tribal people during the war against terrorism, highlighting the hardships endured by families forced to leave their homes. He reaffirmed that the dignified return and resettlement of these individuals is a top priority for the government.

To facilitate this process, the Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to commence preparations for the procurement of necessary goods and supplies for the return and resettlement of displaced persons.
