Residents of Kurram district held Friday prayers on the streets of Parachinar, highlighting their frustration over the prolonged closure of key roads. Sit-ins continue at five locations across the district, with demonstrators demanding immediate government action to reopen blocked routes.
Addressing the main sit-in outside the Parachinar Press Club, Khateeb of Jamia Masjid, Allama Noor Hussain, called the situation dire, marking it as the first time in Kurram's history that Friday prayers were performed outside mosques.
“The two-and-a-half-month road closure has caused severe shortages of essential food, medicines, and non-food items. Children are dying in hospitals due to the lack of treatment facilities,” lamented Mr. Hussain, stressing the government’s failure to fulfill its responsibility of ensuring open roads and necessary facilities.
Parachinar tehsil chairman Agha Muzammil Hussain, along with other speakers, echoed these concerns, demanding the reopening of all roads, including the Afghan border pass and the district’s main highway.
On the administrative front, the district authorities have reported that a peace jirga is currently underway in Kohat. Officials expressed hope for a resolution, stating that a decision on the matter is expected soon.
The road closures have not only disrupted daily life but also sparked a humanitarian crisis, with residents facing severe hardships due to restricted access to basic necessities. Protesters continue their sit-ins as they await tangible government action to address their grievances and restore normalcy in the region.
