Gilgit: Heavy rainfall-triggered landslides and avalanches have blocked major roads across Gilgit-Baltistan, severing land connections to Rawalpindi and other key regions, leaving travelers and tourists stranded.

Key Blockages:

Astore to Dashkan – Landslides blocked the road for 24 hours.
Astore to Gilgit – Avalanche caused complete closure.
Upper Kohistan Achar Nallah – Landslide severed Gilgit-Baltistan’s link with Rawalpindi.
Baltistan Highway – Blocked in two locations, cutting off four districts from Gilgit.

Casualties & Warnings

Rescue 1122 official Wazir Asad confirmed that a landslide hit a car, killing one person and injuring another.

Authorities have issued warnings:

Muhammad Haroon, Assistant Director of GB Disaster Management Authority urged travelers to stay in hotels and avoid risky journeys.
Baltistan Police Spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad confirmed that several travelers and tourists are stranded due to blocked roads.

Weather Outlook

The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain and snowfall in the next two days, raising concerns of further landslides.
