SHO Nazir Hussain Chandio of Mirpur Buriro police station was shot dead by unknown assailants in the heart of Larkana city, raising serious concerns about law and order in the region.
The tragic incident occurred outside the Police Chemical and Forensic Laboratory, situated near the DIG and SSP offices under the jurisdiction of Civil Lines Police Station. Motorcycle-borne armed men opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of SHO Nazir Chandio as he waited in his car. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the ambush.
Sub-Inspector Nazir Hussain Chandio, a resident of Mor Khan Chandio village near Deccan, was critically injured and rushed to the Trauma Center, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.
According to Civil Lines police, the SHO had visited the Forensic Lab to deposit official property and submit a progress report on an important case, reportedly on the orders of DIG Larkana. His gunman, Imamuddin, confirmed the SHO had received a phone call and was alone in the car when the attack took place.
In the immediate aftermath, SSP Larkana Ahmed Faisal Chaudhry ordered a citywide search operation, collecting forensic evidence and retrieving CCTV footage from the crime scene. Despite heightened security and a police presence, no arrests have been made, and no FIR had been registered at the time of reporting.
The victim’s family, devastated by the loss, denied having any known enmity and called for a transparent investigation and swift justice.
🔍 Crackdown and Armed Standoff in Deccan
In a significant development, police launched a major raid in Goth Baksha Shakh near Deccan to arrest the suspects allegedly involved in the SHO’s murder. The raid turned violent as police forces came under fire from the accused party. During the exchange of fire, a woman, the wife of Amjad Chandio, sustained serious injuries, reportedly from police fire. She was later shifted to Dikkan police station for medical attention.
Tensions remain high in the area, with hundreds of police personnel deployed. Journalists have been barred from the scene, raising concerns about transparency.
The police have accused Sajid Chandio, a relative of the slain officer, of orchestrating the murder. According to sources, a long-standing feud between factions of the Chandio community has already claimed six lives over the past five years.
Dikkan police acknowledged that the raid was aimed at apprehending the suspects involved in the SHO’s murder but denied that any civilians were injured by police firing. No arrests have been made so far, and the area remains on high alert.
