Mir Ziaullah Lango Wins PB-36 Kalat By-Election, JUI Alleges Rigging

The Election Commission of Pakistan has officially notified the victory of Mir Ziaullah Lango, candidate of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), in the PB-36 Kalat by-election for the Balochistan Assembly.

Mir Ziaullah Lango secured 14,281 votes, defeating Mir Saeed Lango, the candidate of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), who received 11,064 votes.

JUI Rejects Election Results

The JUI has rejected the by-election results, alleging widespread rigging and electoral malpractice. JUI spokesperson Aslam Ghauri claimed that the election was marred by “the worst rigging in history”, accusing the authorities of committing “election robbery in broad daylight”.

Ghauri further stated that those undermining the electoral process disregarded the spirit of democracy and even ignored the sanctity of Ramadan, expressing frustration over what the party perceives as a major assault on democratic norms.

Political Implications

The victory of Mir Ziaullah Lango strengthens BAP’s position in the provincial assembly, while JUI’s rejection of the results may lead to further political tensions and calls for scrutiny of the election process in Kalat. Observers note that the by-election outcome could impact alliances and power dynamics within Balochistan politics.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has yet to respond to JUI’s allegations of rigging.
