CRIME
On Wednesday, a mob of nearly 2,000 people stormed the Khazana police station in Peshawar, demanding custody of a man accused of desecrating the Holy Quran during a domestic dispute.
Police officials reported that the mob damaged the stati
on’s main gate and hurled stones, injuring several officers, including SP Inam Jan. Tear gas and aerial firing were used to disperse the crowd.
Traffic on the Charsadda Road, a major route connecting Peshawar to the Charsadda district, was blocked for hours, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Police assured the mob of swift legal action against the accused, who had already been arrested and an FIR registered. Talks led by SSP Operations Kashif Zulfiqar with local elders eventually calmed the situation.
No loss of life was reported, and injured officers received first aid. Authorities vowed to prosecute both the accused and the mobsters under relevant laws to maintain order in Peshawar.
