Mobile Internet, Train Services Suspended Across Balochistan After Terror Attacks

Mobile internet services have remained suspended in several parts of Balochistan for the fifth consecutive day, while train operations from Quetta to other parts of the country continue to be halted, following last week’s coordinated terrorist attacks across the province.

Provincial authorities confirmed that the decision was taken in view of the deteriorating law and order situation. Speaking to Dawn, Additional Chief Secretary Hamza Shafqaat said mobile internet services were shut down to address security concerns.

“Keeping in mind the worsening law and order situation in the province, mobile internet has been shut down,” he said. However, he added that the situation was gradually returning to normal and that mobile internet services would be restored from 12am midnight.

Despite this announcement, mobile data services reportedly remained suspended in Nushki and Sibi, while services in Mastung were briefly restored before being halted again. Residents in Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Panjgur and Turbat have also experienced prolonged disruptions due to earlier security-related suspensions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways has continued to suspend train operations from Quetta. Muhammad Kashif, spokesperson for the Pakistan Railways Quetta division, told Dawn that services would remain halted until security clearance is granted.

“Once the security situation improves and we receive clearance, services of the Jaffar Express (Quetta–Peshawar) and the Bolan Mail (Quetta–Karachi) will be restored,” he said.

Security forces on Tuesday continued ‘mop-up operations’ in Nushki district and other affected areas following the coordinated attacks. According to officials, the number of terrorists killed during operations has risen to 197.

On Saturday, armed assailants targeted multiple government installations in Nushki, including a police station, judicial complex, police lines, the Deputy Commissioner’s office and a Federal Constabulary camp. Several government buildings were also set on fire during the attacks.

Although Nushki town has since been cleared and bazaars have reopened after three days, security forces are continuing search operations in the surrounding mountainous regions to prevent any further threats.
