Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders Dr. Farooq Sattar and Khawaja Azhar have alleged that Karachi domiciles are being illegally issued to non-residents from Kashmore, Larkana, and other cities for Rs 15,000, depriving local students of their rightful educational opportunities.
Addressing a press conference, the MQM leaders revealed that Karachi's quota for admission in medical colleges is 1,180 seats, yet reports indicate that 400 seats are being allocated to foreign students. They demanded that 90% of the seats in medical colleges be reserved for Karachi students and called for a separate MDCAT test for Karachi city in the future.
"We contribute 70% to the national treasury, yet our children are being denied opportunities. The identity of Pakistan is being sold in the name of domicile," they stated. They further claimed that all institutions in Sindh have been hijacked and accused a former Chief Justice of Sindh of making biased rulings against migrants.
The MQM leaders urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Army Chief to take immediate notice of the domicile issue, warning that they would seek resolution outside the judiciary and legislative assemblies if justice was not served.
Meanwhile, MQM parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly, Iftikhar Alam, criticized the Sindh government for mismanaging Karachi. He alleged that untrained and even drug-addicted drivers were being granted licenses to operate heavy vehicles, leading to frequent accidents and loss of lives.
He further stated that the issue of Karachi's rights was being turned into a linguistic controversy, adding that when people protest against injustice, they are arrested, while those responsible for the suffering of Karachi's citizens remain free.
The MQM leaders vowed to continue their struggle against the alleged domicile fraud and discrimination against Karachi students.
