POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has called an important Coordination Committee meeting to discuss joining the opposition benches in the National Assembly, senior leader Aminul Haque announced on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media in Parliament, Aminul Haque stated that the party will deliberate on whether to sit independently or officially join the opposition.
Reasons Behind the Decision
According to Aminul Haque, MQM-P had initially supported Shahbaz Sharif for Prime Minister, but the PML-N government has failed to fulfill its promises made to the party, particularly regarding Karachi and Hyderabad development packages.
- “For the past one and a half years, not a single promise made to MQM has been honored,” he said.
- He pointed out that the Sindh and Hyderabad packages were also part of the agreement, but there has been no visible progress.
- The MQM leader expressed concerns about the federal government’s attitude toward his party, adding that development projects in Karachi and Hyderabad remain stalled.
MQM-P’s Next Steps
The Coordination Committee will decide:
✅ Whether to sit on opposition benches
✅ Whether to separate from the federal government
This move could significantly impact the political balance in the National Assembly, particularly for the PML-N-led coalition government.
With growing political tensions, MQM-P’s decision in the coming days will determine its future alignment in Pakistan’s political landscape.
