Naqvi, US Envoy Discuss Diplomatic Push for Second Round of US-Iran Talks in Islamabad

Islamabad – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker in Islamabad to discuss diplomatic efforts aimed at organizing a second round of talks between the United States and Iran, according to an official statement.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the evolving regional situation and explored possibilities for resuming negotiations in the Pakistani capital. The discussion focused on maintaining diplomatic momentum and finding pathways toward a peaceful resolution.

Naqvi welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire, describing it as a positive step that has helped ease tensions. He also expressed hope that Iran would respond constructively to ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The interior minister highlighted that Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, is actively working at multiple levels to support dialogue and de-escalation. He emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting stability.

Despite these efforts, uncertainty remains over the next round of talks. The arrival of US negotiators has been delayed, while Iran has yet to confirm its participation. Ongoing disagreements — including Iran’s stance on the Strait of Hormuz and US restrictions on Iranian ports — continue to complicate the situation.

Although the ceasefire extension has created room for further diplomacy, mistrust between the two sides persists. President Trump has indicated that talks could still take place within a few days, but no final schedule has been confirmed.

Iranian officials have maintained that negotiations will depend on whether conditions are suitable and aligned with the country’s national interests, without giving a clear timeline.

Earlier, Naqvi also held separate meetings with both the US envoy and Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan to discuss arrangements for the proposed talks. He assured that comprehensive security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all visiting delegations.

The first round of direct US-Iran talks, held in Islamabad earlier this month, concluded without a formal agreement but kept diplomatic channels open, leaving room for further negotiations.
