POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has blamed the country's economic and moral decline on the "change" narrative, calling it a period marked by corruption, inflation, and political toxicity.
Speaking at a meeting with Punjab Assembly members from Sahiwal, Khanewal, Multan, Lodhran, Vehari, and Bahawalnagar divisions, Nawaz Sharif criticized past governance policies for pushing Pakistan to the brink of default.
"The economy was derailed, politics was polluted with rudeness and revenge, and democratic principles were betrayed," he stated. "Pakistan has now returned from the mouth of default, thanks to the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif."
The meeting focused on ongoing public welfare projects and future political strategies. Nawaz Sharif expressed confidence in the government's economic reforms and stressed the need for policy continuity to ensure long-term stability.
"Our mission is to free the people from inflation and lead Pakistan towards prosperity," he said. "The promises we made are being fulfilled today with Allah’s grace."
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, also present at the meeting, reiterated her commitment to public service. "I have accepted the mission of serving the people as a challenge," she said, thanking the party leadership for entrusting her with the responsibility.
Political Context
The PML-N has consistently blamed the previous PTI-led government for the country's economic challenges. Nawaz Sharif's remarks come as Pakistan seeks to sustain recent economic gains following an IMF program aimed at stabilizing the rupee, reducing inflation, and curbing fiscal deficits.
