TRADE & ECONOMY
SOST, PAKISTAN: The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has made history by launching the first-ever road transport service for goods moving from China to Dubai, reducing the delivery time from 30 days to just 10 days. This initiative marks a significant achievement in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and is a vital step toward increasing trade between China, Pakistan, and the Gulf countries.
An NLC truck, carrying electronic equipment, departed from Kashgar, China, heading to Jebel Ali Port in Dubai via the Khunjerab Pass. The truck’s first leg of the journey was completed at the NLC Dry Port Sost, where a ceremony was held to celebrate the historic shipment. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Gilgit-Baltistan government, customs representatives, and members of the local business community.
A Game-Changing Logistics Route
This new road transport service is expected to reduce delivery time significantly. Previously, goods would take 30 days to reach Dubai by sea from Kashgar, but with NLC’s initiative, the entire journey will take only 10 days. After departing Kashgar, NLC trucks will take 8 days to reach Karachi, from where the goods will be shipped via sea to Dubai in 2 days.
This time-efficient route is crucial for business communities as it offers a fast and cost-effective solution for transporting goods between China and the Gulf. The new system will drastically improve the supply chain for exporters and importers and will open new opportunities for trade between Pakistan, China, and the Middle East.
Economic and Trade Benefits
The new road transport service is expected to have a profound impact on the region’s economy. It will boost trade by diversifying markets and reducing costs, while also increasing the speed of trade. This initiative will also enhance Pakistan’s position as a key logistics hub connecting Asia to global markets.
The business community has expressed enthusiasm for the service, as it highlights Pakistan’s growing importance as a regional logistics leader. NLC’s efforts in improving connectivity between China, Pakistan, and Central Asia through the Khunjerab Pass are helping to foster economic growth and trade.
Consolidating NLC’s Leadership in Regional Connectivity
With this success, NLC has consolidated its role as a leader in regional logistics. The corporation’s focus on creating new, efficient trade routes will continue to enhance connectivity across Pakistan and its neighboring regions. The Khunjerab Pass, which was once closed for most of the year, is now open for year-round operations, allowing for seamless transportation.
NLC’s initiative is set to not only boost trade but also encourage regional cooperation and economic integration across Asia and the Gulf countries, proving that Pakistan’s logistical capabilities are increasingly recognized as an essential component of global trade.
