The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Tuesday announced a sharp 35% increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices for April, raising the cost of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder by Rs924 amid surging global rates.
According to the official notification, the price per kilogram of LPG has been set at Rs304.15 for April, up from Rs225.84 in March. Consequently, the cost of an 11.8kg cylinder has jumped to Rs3,588.60 from Rs2,664.88 last month.
The authority said the producer price of LPG—comprising 40% propane and 60% butane—was calculated at Rs262,817.53 per tonne for April, up from Rs184,537 per tonne in March. This includes an excise duty of Rs85 per tonne, a petroleum levy of Rs4,669 per tonne, and 18% general sales tax (GST).
Adding marketing, distribution, and transportation margins totaling Rs35,000 per tonne, along with an additional 18% GST on these margins, OGRA finalized the consumer-end maximum price at Rs304,117.53 per tonne, equivalent to Rs3,588.59 per 11.8kg cylinder.
OGRA attributed the increase to a 44% rise in Saudi Aramco-CP prices, despite a slight 0.11% drop in the average dollar exchange rate. The per kilogram increase for consumers amounts to Rs78.28, effective until April 30.
The authority’s move reflects global energy market volatility and is expected to impact household budgets nationwide, particularly as Pakistan faces rising inflation and energy costs.
