Omar Ayub Challenges Islamabad High Court’s Decision on Election Rigging in NA-18 Haripur

Opposition Leader Omar Ayub has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the Islamabad High Court's decision regarding the Election Commission's investigation into alleged rigging in National Assembly constituency NA-18 Haripur. The PTI leader is contesting the High Court's ruling, which had lifted a stay order on the investigation into election rigging.

In his petition, Omar Ayub argues that the Election Commission exceeded its constitutional mandate by initiating action after the 60-day period allowed for post-election action had passed. According to Ayub, the Election Commission's actions were beyond the timeframe established by the constitution, and the Islamabad High Court's decision to allow the Commission to proceed was not in accordance with the law.

The petition requests that the Supreme Court declare both the Islamabad High Court's decision and the Election Commission’s actions null and void. Ayub’s legal team contends that the High Court’s ruling undermines the constitutional limits and guidelines set for electoral processes.

The Islamabad High Court's recent decision had instructed the Election Commission to continue its investigation into the rigging allegations, but Ayub’s petition asserts that such a move violates constitutional principles, as the Election Commission's authority to act had lapsed.

This legal challenge has stirred significant political discussions, as the PTI leader maintains that the electoral process in Haripur was marred by irregularities and that the investigation should not proceed without due constitutional regard.

The case now awaits a review by the Supreme Court, which will decide whether the High Court’s order stands or if the investigation is to be halted due to constitutional concerns.
