Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their "iron-clad" partnership, pledging to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, defense, agriculture, and information technology. The bilateral discussions occurred during President Asif Ali Zardari's visit to China, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other senior officials.

A joint statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) highlighted the agreements reached during the visit, underscoring both nations' commitment to combating terrorism and enhancing strategic ties across various sectors.

Counter-Terrorism Pledge

Both sides reiterated their "zero-tolerance" approach to terrorism. Pakistan condemned recent terrorist attacks involving Chinese personnel, promising to increase security measures to protect Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in the country. The Chinese leadership praised Pakistan's sacrifices in counter-terrorism and offered support for enhancing its counter-terrorism capacity.

Economic and Infrastructure Development

The visit witnessed the signing of over a dozen agreements covering cooperation in trade, technology, media, and the ongoing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. Both sides committed to upgrading Pakistan's railway network and developing Gwadar Port as a key trade and logistics hub.

China also expressed interest in investing in Pakistan's offshore oil and gas resources and geological survey cooperation for mining development.

Technological Cooperation and Education

Both countries agreed to strengthen collaboration in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and big data. China also pledged to support Pakistani students in learning the Chinese language and explore avenues for technical training.

Geopolitical Support

Pakistan reaffirmed its support for China's "One-China Policy" and China's sovereignty over Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang (Tibet), and Hong Kong. China, in turn, reiterated its support for Pakistan's national sovereignty and security efforts.

The FO highlighted that both nations remain committed to regional peace and stability, particularly in Afghanistan. They called on the Interim Afghan Government to dismantle terrorist groups operating from its territory.

Cultural and Social Cooperation

The two sides agreed to enhance cultural exchanges, strengthen educational collaborations, and explore joint ventures in media and entertainment.

Gwadar Port and Trade Expansion

Gwadar Port's development remains a priority, with both nations agreeing to fully unleash its potential as a key trade node.

Commitment to Peace in the Middle East

Both nations welcomed the ceasefire in Gaza and expressed support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

Conclusion

The visit solidified the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China, with both nations vowing to further deepen their strategic, economic, and security ties.
