Pakistan and Russia Commence Joint Military Exercise 'Druzhba VII'

Pakistan and Russia have initiated their seventh bilateral joint military exercise, codenamed 'Druzhba VII,' the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The two-week-long exercise, which began on October 13, is being held at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre in Pabbi. The exercise involves Light Commando Troops from the Pakistan Army and a Russian Military Contingent. This drill aims to improve professional skills through joint training, while also fostering the historic military-to-military relationship between the two nations.

According to the ISPR, the exercise is designed to refine counterterrorism techniques and strategies, ensuring that both militaries are well-prepared for modern-day security challenges. The event's opening ceremony was attended by the Commandant of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.

This year’s exercise follows the previous 'Druzhba VI' held in 2021 in the Molkino training area of Krasnodar, Russia. These regular military drills are a crucial part of Pakistan's defense strategy, as they help improve combat readiness, identify logistical and operational issues, and ensure that training protocols remain up to date.

Joint military exercises like 'Druzhba' not only enhance the operational skills of the armed forces but also solidify diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Russia. Both nations view these drills as an important part of their long-term strategic cooperation.

Pakistan’s armed forces frequently engage in such joint exercises with friendly nations to further enhance their capabilities in counterterrorism, combat operations, and strategic planning. These drills provide a platform to exchange valuable knowledge, boost interoperability, and contribute to regional security.
